Sam McGregor
Deputy Director
Sam McGregor is the Deputy Director of Smart Data Research UK, a UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) data infrastructure programme. Her career to date has been dedicated to advancing the role of non-STEM disciplines in addressing the challenges we face. Sam is particularly interested in the impact of technology on society, communities and individuals. An area of focus is exploring how public trust in emerging technologies is built, maintained and/or undermined.
Sam joined Smart Data Research UK from the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC). While at the AHRC, she established and oversaw ground-breaking, multidisciplinary and multisectoral research and innovation investments. The projects spanned Artificial Intelligence, Design for the Green Transition, and the Creative Industries.
Previously, Sam was Head of the Economic and Social Research Council’s Data and Infrastructure, where she led on the development and delivery of data services and significant data investments, including Administrative Data Research UK and the UK Data Service.
Sam McGregor also worked at the Alan Turing Institute during its inception, facilitating the development and implementation of the Institute’s strategy and enabling cross-disciplinary data science research collaborations.
