Katherine Holden

Head of Policy and Research

Katherine Holden is Head of Policy and Research at Smart Data Research UK.

Prior to joining the team, Katherine spent seven years as the Associate Director for Artificial Intelligence, Data Analytics and AI at techUK, the largest technology trade association in the UK. This role primarily involved shaping the UK Government’s AI and Digital Identity strategies to support the wider adoption of ethical innovation.

Katherine also has experience working in the Cabinet Office, supporting the digital transformation of the UK Government, and driving the Government’s digital portfolio during her time in the Deputy Prime Minister’s private office. 

While working at the Association of Medical Research Charities (AMRC), Katherine led AMRC’s policy work, advocating the importance of patient data for medical research purposes and delivering models on patient consent and opt-outs.

Katherine’s career started in science communications and public/stakeholder engagement while working at the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC). She also has a BSc degree in Biology from the University of Nottingham.
