Ian Neil

Portfolio Manager 

Ian Neil is Portfolio Manager in the Workstreams and Operations team. His primary focus is on the commissioning and management of Smart Data Research UK’s investments.

Ian joined the programme in March 2024. Previously, he was working with the Data Strategy and Infrastructure team at the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). Ian’s role there included supporting the management of the world-renowned “Understanding Society” longitudinal study and contributing to the ESRC “Future Data Services” programme that aims to establish how best to invest in providing access to social science data and associated services in the future.

Ian Neil has an academic background in social science, holding a BSc (Hons) in Psychology. His previous employment has been spent mostly in the commercial world of non-ferrous metal importation and distribution, having completed 25 years of service in Area and Operations Management.
