John Gall

John Gall is a Smart Data Research UK programme board member.

John is the Head of Data Economy & Innovation at the Department for Science, Innovation & Technology. This involves leading the UK Government’s policy approach to creating the best conditions for realising the potential of data, through its access and use across the economy, in scientific discovery and advancing technologies.

John Gall’s background covers working in the private and public sectors. In central government this includes policy on pro-innovation approaches to regulation, business readiness for Brexit, the economic response to the global pandemic and banking reform. In the private sector this covers work in the financial services sector, including on banking reform and conduct, housing finance and consumer confidence.
