Another chance to see the smart data special Data Bites
You can now watch and listen to a recording of the Institute for Government’s Data Bites ‘Smart Data Special’, supported by Smart Data Research UK.
Better use of data is key to more effective government. Across government, teams are doing fascinating work with data, but these projects don’t always get the attention they deserve. The Institute for Government’s Data Bites series aims to change that.
The Smart Data Research UK ‘Smart Data Special’ edition of Data Bites took place on 26 February 2024. It was an opportunity to showcase ground-breaking work in the crucial area of smart data for research.
The talks explored emerging developments in smart data generated through everyday interactions with the digital world, including via mobile apps, navigation systems, social media, and shopping.
Speakers shared their insights, innovative solutions for current challenges, successes and lessons learned for the future.
As with all Data Bites events, each speaker had just eight minutes to present, followed by eight minutes of questions from the audience.
The lively session was chaired by Gavin Freeguard, Associate at the Institute for Government, and the speakers were:
- Joe Cuddeford, Director at Smart Data Research UK, on ‘Safe access to smart data for research’
- Frank Gauld, Chief Executive Officer at Smart Data Foundry, on ‘Unlocking financial institutions community intelligence through private sector data sharing at scale’
- Ben Goldacre, Director at the Bennett Institute for Applied Data Science
- Professor Gina Neff, Executive Director of the Minderoo Centre for Technology and Democracy
